What does Gan bring to Apple?
Research
I enjoy talking with people, finding out why they like what they do, and more importantly, what their problems and pain points are using empathy mapping. Once I know the problems and pain points, I can begin to solve their problems in a way that will surprise and delight. I also conduct secondary research into literature of the business and the competition.
Define
Once the problems are known, the solution must be defined. I take the data that I gather in both secondary and primary research to make a persona, so that I can look at the problem in the voice of an actual person., while keeping the business goals in mind.
Ideate
Ideation is when I work with others to come up with what the product will be like. This includes how users will get the important tasks done. How they will interact with the final product, and the first thoughts of how a product will work.
Prototype
Prototypes are important to show the look, of the product, and to begin to demonstrate how the product will be used. I create prototypes using a variety of software, and can make low, medium, and high fidelity prototypes, with individual pages, and link these to make them partially active.
Test
Testing is another time to meet with users, and see how they interact with the prototypes. It is important in testing to find additional pain points and problems that users have. Since pain points might be due to an individual misunderstanding, I create affinity maps to show where several users have had problems with the prototype.
Iterate
When I have discovered pain points these can be fixed, and additional features can be added if necessary. Iteration of a design may be extensive or minimal. If the testing was done on an early lo fi, or mid fidelity prototype, then the prototype can be upgraded to a mid, or high fidelity prototype. Also, once fully tested, a UI kit, mood board and style tile are created to help the hand off to the development team.
